Description
This advanced presentation looks beyond the initial investigation of a fire fatality and examines in greater detail complexities unique to the fire fatality including: how the body burns, mass fatality incidents, special circumstance scenes, and preparing for Daubert/trial. Attendees will also be educated on how to interpret results from the Medical Examiner/Coroner’s report(s). Investigating a fire that involves fatalities requires specific knowledge and methodology. The fire investigator will, in most cases, work side by side with other agencies and investigators. Preparing for these events will result in a more thorough scene examination, enhanced cooperation between investigators and helping us achieve our ultimate goals of:
1. Determining the origin and cause of the fire
2. Seeking justice for victims AND
3. Providing information to help prevent similar events
