Description

This course will emphasize the significance of an effective receiving screening at intake and
outline the key requirements, observations, and inquiries correctional staff should be making
during this process to avoid potential medical emergencies, suicide attempts, injuries to
staff/inmates, and even death. In addition, we will discuss various tips on how to improve your
staff’s interview & observation skills during this process to improve the accuracy of information
they obtain from the inmates at this time. Finally, we will discuss how using the information
uncovered during this process can assist jail staff in making timely referrals to either your
medical/mental health provider and how this information can assist in making an initial housing
assignment.
