Course Objectives
Course Overview:
Date: September 18, 2024
Time: 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. EST

State loses $32 million in 3 straight "false confession cases."
National retail company loses $10 million to employee due to coerced confession.
Employee commits suicide after being wrongly accused of theft and "perp walked" out of store. Family sues employer.

1984 the “wave” began in the UK. In 1989 it hit the US. That “wave” was an acute awareness of contaminated statements and false or coerced confessions. Since then there have been numerous convictions over turned and high profile multi-million dollar lawsuits filed against US criminal justice agencies.
Contaminated statements and false or coerced confession cases generated by loss prevention and risk management professionals in corporate settings have also come to light.
This increased level of awareness has lead to comprehensive legal and scientific examination to identify tactics, techniques and conditions that contribute to the problem. Unfortunately very few agencies have critically reviewed their in-house or contract training content to determine the tactics and techniques being taught are known to perpetuate an increased risk of false confessions and contaminated statements. Those agencies may be putting their cases, personnel and municipalities at risk of significant legal liability.
