Event Detail-2
Ryan Gausman
Ryan Gausman received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Economics from Seattle Pacific University, after which he enrolled in graduate studies at the University of Puget Sound. At the time, the late 1970’s and early 80’s, he was employed for 15 years by Nordstrom Inc., a west coast specialty clothing retailer, fulfilling various leadership roles including general store manager at two Southern California Mall locations, one of which employed 350 people, and eventually regional operations manager for Southern California. During his time there the company was featured in Tom Peters’ book, “In Search Of Excellence”. In these positions he often worked directly with the Nordstrom family, who instilled in him a lifelong passion for excellence, excellent leadership, teambuilding, and an insatiable lifelong curiosity to understand how people respond to excellent leadership.
Since his time at Nordstrom, he has held leadership positions in the outdoor industry, volunteer and faith based organizations, has owned 4 businesses of his own, and spent 22 years with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office in Washington State, retiring as a Sergeant. Ryan currently serves as Chief Deputy Coroner for Kittitas County Washington.
He published his book, “
Leadership, Excellence, and a Royal Coachman” in 2020, which is a compilation of his observations from more than 45 years of leadership experience.
Ryan has been a part of organizations who were the best at providing excellence and he’s been a part of some who were the worst. He has discovered that, regardless of the industry or occupation, the principles of leadership and teamwork which bring an organization to a level of excellence are always the same. The benefits of true excellent leadership, in every case, justify the effort required to achieve it.
Course Objectives
Course Overview:
Just about anyone can take on the role of manager or supervisor but, to truly become an excellent leader is a challenge not every manager overcomes. Only our people and those we serve decide if we earn the title of leader, and they base their decision more on who we are than on what we do. True leadership is the product of our way of thinking and our view of our people and the world in which we operate. Excellent leaders enjoy the benefits of loyal, engaged, focused teams, teams which get more done, with less drama, and who enjoy their work more than people who work in an environment where true leadership is absent. Excellent leadership also results in stronger and more effective community partnerships between our teams and those we serve. In this training we will discuss the transition from team member to leader as well as how we, as leaders, can earn the respect, trust, cooperation, and loyalty of our team members.

Course Objectives
Our overall objective is that our people and our teams will be excited to be a part of something great, our organization. As true leaders it is up to us to build that culture and environment of trust and partnership in which our people can truly discover and develop their own abilities and find their own greatness. In a culture such as this we will find that employee engagement, focus, effectiveness, and satisfaction are maximized. How do we build that culture and those teams? It requires a leader with a plan.
