Brian Redburn, Assistant Chief
Irving Texas Police Department
Assistant Police Chief Brian Redburn has served in various supervisory and command capacities throughout the Irving Texas Police Department, including Patrol, Personnel, Internal Affairs, Special Operations, Investigations and Administrative Services. He is a Certified Instructor and Presenter in a Nationally Prominent Internal Affairs Training Program. Brian is an attorney licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Texas. He completed his undergraduate education at Florida State University in Tallahassee, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology and Political Science. In 2013, he earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence, cum laude, from Texas Wesleyan University School of Law (now Texas A&M School of Law), finishing in the top 10 percent of his graduating class.

Course Objectives
Course Overview:
This two and a half day course is a designed for all public safety professionals from chief executive officer to first-line supervisors that are involved in the internal affairs process or manage a professional standards office. The process for managing and investigating complaints against law enforcement personnel can be complex, sensitive and highly-charged. This nationally-prominent program will provide participants with the knowledge and insights required to conduct and administer timely, objective and thorough internal affairs inquiries.
The professional standards model is a must for law enforcement and government officials to be prepared before a critical incident occurs. This course sets the stage for law enforcement executives, internal affairs investigators and supervisors to create an agency wide practice of professional standards all agency operations and how to thoroughly investigate complaints against employees. In the covered material, attendees will understand "best practices" including how to avoid the problems before they occur and how to properly address issues that do arise. This is a comprehensive course covering the entire internal affairs process through final discipline. Also, covered in this course is the legal aspects of the internal affairs process, rights of employees, and the impact that a process has on communities as a whole.
