Gregory J. Anderson, Retired

Gregory J. Anderson began his career with the Aurora Police Department and held a variety of positions up to Deputy Chief of Police. As Deputy Chief, his role was to direct the day-to-day operations of the police department with over 430 full time employees.
Gregory J. Anderson Retired as Chief of Police at the Oak Forest Police Department, Illinois.
Gregory J. Anderson has a Master’s degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration from Western Illinois University and a Bachelor’s degree from The Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has also attended many executive management and leadership courses throughout his career and instructs and consults nationally on internal affairs and professional standards issues, police leadership and supervision topics. He has been teaching law enforcement and executives for over 10 year focusing on internal affairs, professional standards and leadership. He has also taught at the university level and has also served on the International Association of Chiefs of Police committee on Professional Standards, Image and Ethics.

Course Objectives
Course Overview:
This two day course is a designed for all public safety professionals from chief executive officer to first-line supervisors that are involved in the internal affairs process or manage a professional standards office. The process for managing and investigating complaints against law enforcement personnel can be complex, sensitive and highly-charged. This nationally-prominent program will provide participants with the knowledge and insights required to conduct and administer timely, objective and thorough internal affairs inquiries.
The professional standards model is a must for law enforcement and government officials to be prepared before a critical incident occurs. This course sets the stage for law enforcement executives, internal affairs investigators and supervisors to create an agency wide practice of professional standards all agency operations and how to thoroughly investigate complaints against employees. In the covered material, attendees will understand "best practices" including how to avoid the problems before they occur and how to properly address issues that do arise. This is a comprehensive course covering the entire internal affairs process through final discipline. Also, covered in this course is the legal aspects of the internal affairs process, rights of employees, and the impact that a process has on communities as a whole.
